Law Student Scholarship: $2,500
A $2,500 award for a prospective or current law student who can say, specifically, why law — and what they intend to do with it.
01Why we fund this
Mass Tort Ad Agency exists because plaintiff lawyers take on the cases nobody else will: defective drugs, contaminated water, products that hurt people at scale. Every one of those cases started with someone deciding to go to law school. We have run this award since 2016 (originally as X Social Media) because a $2,500 check at the right moment is a small thing that can matter a lot.
02Who can apply
- Accepted to, or currently enrolled in, an accredited law school in the United States — or enrolled in an accredited college or university with a stated plan to attend law school
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
- A verifiable record of volunteer or community service
- Legal U.S. resident, 18 or older by the deadline
Employees of X Social Media LLC and their immediate families are not eligible. Previous recipients of the same award are not eligible. Full terms and conditions.
03The essay
Many professions let a person make an impact on the world. Why will you pursue law, specifically?
Up to 1,000 words. We read for a sincere, specific answer — the plan, the people you expect to serve, the reason it has to be law and not something else. We do not read for vocabulary. Essays must be your own original work; we check.
04Apply
Everything is on this page — there is no separate portal, no account, and no document upload. Paste your essay into the box. Finalists are contacted for proof of enrollment before the award is made.
05Questions students ask
- Do I need to be in law school already?
- No. Accepted students and undergraduates with a stated plan to attend law school are eligible, alongside current law students.
- Is the award renewable?
- No. It is a one-time $2,500 award, paid directly to the recipient’s school for tuition or fees.
- Do I have to be interested in mass torts or plaintiff work?
- No. The prompt asks why law, not which kind. Strong essays have come from students headed to public defense, immigration, transactional and regulatory work.
- How will I know if I won?
- One recipient is notified by email by January 31, and the award is announced on this page. We are not able to send individual feedback on essays.
Also open: the Cancer Survivor Scholarship. Financial-aid offices can find listing text for both awards on the scholarships page.
