The Question Every Plaintiff Firm Asks Me

Fourteen personal injury SEO agencies and four agencies that publish “best SEO company” rankings were audited on a single day, using one identical test applied to each firm’s own homepage. Not one of the 18 scored above a C. Every one of the 18 scored lower on GEO — whether an AI answer engine can read, extract and cite the page — than on technical SEO. The category has mastered being crawled and has not yet rebuilt for being cited.

Every “Best SEO Agency” List Is Written By An Agency Ranking Itself

Search “best law firm SEO agency” and page one is almost entirely lists published by agencies. Every one I found placed its own company at or near the top. These are not reviews. They are link assets, and the ranking is the product.

So I ran the same test on the authors. Seven agencies published a ranking of the best SEO company. Not one of them scores above a C on its own website.

Credit where it is due. JurisPage was the only one that disclosed the conflict. Its list states plainly that JurisPage is ranked first, that Juris Digital is ranked second, that the same people wrote the article, and that both companies share a parent. Nobody else disclosed anything.

The Test: One Page, One Method, Same Day

Every agency was graded on one page only — its own homepage. Not a client site, not a case study. It is an oversimplification, and it is also the one property an agency fully controls and the only thing a law firm can check before signing a contract.

CategoryWeightWhat it measures
GEO35Whether an answer engine can extract, attribute and reuse the page
Content25Depth, specificity and evidence on the page
Technical20Crawlability, canonicals, robots, sitemap, response integrity
Schema15Structured data coverage and entity completeness
On-page5Title, meta description, heading structure, alt coverage

Each homepage was fetched twice under two forced methods: a headless browser that executes JavaScript, and a plain server-side fetch that does not. Two agencies block headless browser traffic, so only the plain fetch could measure all 18. Every score below comes from the plain fetch, applied identically to every site. Across the firms measurable both ways the two methods differed by an average of 1.9 points and never by more than 6. The method does not decide the outcome.

Blocking automated traffic is a legitimate security posture, not an SEO defect, and it is not scored against any firm.

Results: Nobody Cleared A C

Scores cluster tightly. Eleven of the fourteen personal injury specialists sit between 69 and 78, which is inside the range two legitimate measurement methods can disagree by. Read these as bands, not as a strict ranking.

The Pattern That Actually Matters

All 18 of 18 scored lower on GEO than on technical SEO. There are no exceptions. Technical averaged 92.2 and no site fell below 70. GEO averaged 59.1, and only one site of eighteen cleared 75.

Look at those technical scores. Perfect hundreds. These are not sloppy shops. They built flawless websites for a search engine that is being replaced underneath them.

And the sharpest version of it: Posirank has the single largest gap in this study and the lowest GEO score measured — and Posirank is the agency publishing the “Top 5 AEO/GEO Agencies for Personal Injury Law Firms” list with itself ranked first.

So Who Would I Recommend?

For SEO: most of them, honestly

Technical averaged 92.2 across all 18 sites. Not one site scored below 70. Twelve of eighteen scored above 90. These are competent shops that know how to build a crawlable, well-structured, properly marked-up website. Hire from this group for classic SEO and you are not going to get robbed.

One caveat so this does not read as a puff piece: content averaged 64.6, and 17 of the 18 scored under 70 there. They are excellent at the mechanics and thinner on substance.

For AEO or GEO: nobody has earned it yet

That is the actual finding of this study. The best GEO score across all 18 sites is 76 — still a C — and it belongs to a generalist, not a legal specialist. If your firm is buying AEO or GEO right now, understand what you are buying. The category is selling a service it has not yet built for itself.

The Correction I Caught Before Publishing

On the first run, Rankings.io scored 29 and an F. That number was wrong. The headless browser had been served a 403 block page, and the engine scored the block page instead of the website. The bug was fixed, the validity check hardened, and Rankings.io re-measured at 77 — near the top of the field, with the second-best GEO score among the personal injury specialists.

It is documented here because a scoring method nobody can audit is worth nothing. If I am going to grade other people’s work in public, the place my own tool broke goes in the report too.

Limits Of This Study

  • This grades one page. A homepage score is not an agency’s competence, client results, or case volume. A firm can run an excellent program for clients while under-investing in its own site.
  • Scores are a single-day snapshot. Sites change, and re-running this in a month will produce different numbers. That is why the method is published.
  • Off-page authority, client outcomes, retention, pricing and service quality are not measured here at all. None are visible from a homepage.
  • Two firms block headless browser traffic. That is a security choice, not a defect, and carries no scoring penalty.
  • The engine used here was built by Mass Tort Ad Agency. Reasonable people should discount a scorecard published by an interested party, which is exactly why the weights, the method and every individual defect are published rather than summarized.

The complete report runs 44 pages and lists all 275 measured defects across all 18 sites, one page per firm, each with the specific fix and how to verify it. Category weights and methodology are included so the findings can be checked rather than trusted.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is the best SEO company for personal injury law firms?

No agency in this study scored above a C on its own website, so no single firm earns an unqualified recommendation. On classic technical SEO the field is broadly competent, with an average technical score of 92.2 and no site below 70. The top overall scores were Market My Market at 78, Rankings.io at 77, and iLawyerMarketing, Grow Law Firm, Consultwebs and Fuel Online tied at 75.

Which agency is best for AEO or GEO for law firms?

None of the 18 sites measured has earned that recommendation yet. All 18 scored lower on GEO than on technical SEO, the field average was 59.1, and the highest GEO score was 76 — still a C, and belonging to a generalist rather than a legal specialist.

Are “best law firm SEO agency” lists trustworthy?

Every such list found on page one of Google was published by an agency that placed itself at or near the top. Seven of those authors were measured in this study and none scored above a C on its own website. Only one, JurisPage, disclosed the conflict of interest.

How was each agency scored?

One page per agency — its own homepage — graded on five weighted categories: GEO at 35 percent, content at 25, technical at 20, schema at 15 and on-page at 5. Every site was fetched with an identical plain server-side fetch on the same day.

What is GEO and why does it score lower than SEO?

GEO measures whether an AI answer engine can read, extract, attribute and reuse a page. It scores lower because the field optimized for crawlers and rankings over roughly two decades, while answer-engine readability requires different signals: explicit entity markup, answer-first structure, verifiable claims and machine-readable credentials.
